I just wrapped up my first author visit at a high school in Kansas. I was nervous, to say the least. Because I teach middle schoolers, I was naturally terrified of the older ones. 😅 But it went well! Even with forgetting my hair straightener and mascara (a girl's got to have those, of course), being locked in the library due to a shooting nearby, and winging the last presentation due to some technical difficulties. Through it all, the students were quiet and respectful. The staff was kind and welcoming. There were several students who were interested in reading my book and bummed when they didn't win a copy. Don't worry, the school bought one for their library.
I did learn some things from my time there that might be helpful for other indie authors.
Money: I didn't quite know what to charge. It wasn't my first author visit, but it was the first where I was asked for a fee. I have no regrets with what I charged because the school was so nice and paid for my hotel and meal. Did I mention it was my first school visit? They got the first-visit discount! 😂 However, a friend of mine who works with author visits mentioned I asked too little and that I have to think of this as a business as well. I went back to researching and have redone my author fees for these types of events. There is now a new page on this website with that information!
Technology: Technology may fail, so don't rely on your presentation. I need to go back to the drawing board for this. I rely on my slides to keep me on track with what I'm talking about. I think I'll be creating some notecards for myself, but in a color that goes with my slides because... Why not?
Bring Something: I've been toying with the idea of bringing something to my event. Candy? Bookmarks? I don't know, but I'll think of something on the tables for the students.
Presentation Length: I had too much. I wanted to tell them everything! But I just didn't have the time to do it. Look at length of time you'll have for your presentation and cut 15 minutes off for questions.
All in all, it was a great success for my first school visit. I hope that I can do more in the future.
March 30, 2025
I spent most of 2023 and 2024 focused on publishing The Dragonheir Trilogy, and by the end of 2024, I was exhausted. 🥴 So, I took some time off for myself! I've gotten back into reading for enjoyment (it's difficult to do it while writing) as well as being more present with my family.
With that being said, April is upon us, and I have a deadline to publish my next novel, The Bone Temple, by the end of this year! 🤩
Until then, I'll keep everyone updated on the book's progress and upcoming appearances.
Speaking of appearances! I'll be visiting Wellington High School in Wellington, KS, this April. 🏫 I hope to inspire the next generation of authors by not only speaking about the writing process and my novels but also by introducing them to another avenue of achieving their literary dreams: 📚 independent publishing.

I am excited to announce that all three books of the Dragonheir Trilogy are available in hardback through Amazon!
JOCO Con
I had a fantastic time at JOCO Con, even though I was particularly nervous and not sure what to expect! But it turned out to be a blast, filled with great conversation and laughter. The audience had some great questions about building fantasy worlds, and I loved diving into the nuances of magical systems and their limitations. Giving insight to aspiring writers made it all the more fun and rewarding, and, who knows, maybe I inspired the next great fantasy epic!
Here I am sitting next to my co-panelist, Bob Sykora.
From the desk of Sarah Edgerton…
Each month, I’ll take you into the world of The Bone Temple. In a previous month, you were introduced to the overall concept of the book. This month, I’ll take you into the world of Etana. This world is divided into two kingdoms whose people live somewhat peacefully apart. They do not bother one another; however, they do hold prejudices toward one another. The only time these kingdoms are forced to interact is when The Pairing occurs.
The Kingdom of Sikander is the home of the warrior people. In Sikander, warriors value strength, honor, and loyalty. Their kingdom consists of rugged mountains with snow-capped peaks and an abundance of trees. Small villages are scattered throughout.
The Kingdom of Arien is the home of the mages. In Arien, mages value the pursuit of knowledge and skill in wielding their magic. They believe in innovation and preserving ancient texts. Their kingdom consists of lush forests, rolling hills, and crystal-clear rivers.
These two kingdoms are divided by a dense forest of gnarled trees beneath perpetual darkness. Deep within this forest is the The Bone Temple.
Get ready for a science fiction convention that’s out of this world! Writers, enthusiasts, and pop culture fanatics alike are welcome to join us for JoCo Con—a FREE celebration of all things sci-fi.
Spend a day immersed in your favorite genre:
Learn the craft from panels of local comic writers and animators.
Treat yourself to a one-of-a-kind gift from our local vendor hall.
Stick around to the end for a screening of a pulp classic science fiction film, “Donnie Darko.”
Meet new friends or bring a group.
Sarah will be participating as both a vendor and a panelist. She will have her own exhibit where she’ll showcase and sell her award-winning trilogy. Additionally, she’ll join a panel discussion on how magic systems contribute to world-building, focusing on the development of the magical system and its limitations.
Sarah will be a part of the World-Building Panel at 11:30 in Midwest Trust Center Building, Room 126A.

I am excited to announce that on April 6, Daughter of Chaos was revealed as the winner in the YA Fantasy category at The BookFest Awards for Spring 2024!
This award came as quite a shock. As an author, it can be difficult to find motivation to write. And I know I'm not the only one! I have been lacking some motivation to continue book three of my Dragonheir Trilogy. This award sparked confidence in me, and I've found my motivation again.
I hope that you love Emera's story. I look forward to sharing its conclusion with you at the end of this summer.
xoxo - Sarah

A Resurrected Evil
The vengeful Dragongod, Amram, is alive and plotting to reclaim the world while eliminating humanity. If he isn’t orchestrating resurrection rituals to bring his army of Dragons back to life, he’s invading Emera’s mind and haunting her thoughts.
An Unknown Identity
Once certain of his status as the Dragonheir of Vukan, Captain Calian Westbow now grapples with uncertainty about his true nature. He wants nothing more than to confide in Emera, but because Amram continues to take over her mind, Calian must remain silent. Throughout his journey across the unnamed world, he slowly discovers the significant role he has to play in Amram’s downfall.
A Warrior Within
Emera Edevane’s task is clear: she must locate the Chaos Dragongoddess, Nimerah, before Amram does. Nimerah is dying, and the Dragongoddess holds vital information that can help defeat Amram. To get to Nimerah before Amram, Emera cannot rely on just her magic. She must dive deep within herself and unleash the warrior within.
Check out this month's newsletter to see the cover for Warrior of Chaos! The cover will not be uploaded to the website until December 26th.

I am so excited that the cover for Daughter of Chaos is complete! Stay tuned for the big reveal!
I. Am. So. Ecstatic! Yesterday, I sent my cover artist my final thoughts on the cover, and I just know she's going to make it look amazing. She said she's already played around with some designs and is excited about what she's coming up with. I can't wait to show you all! She's going to send me some rough drafts this weekend. Eek!
Happy Mother's Day! Make sure to show some love to your mama!
My son showed me some love by creating a custom-made book cover. So if the deal falls through with my current artist, I'll have a great backup.
It's been so long since I've updated! I don't have much information, but I think I've narrowed it down to a couple of cover artists, and I plan on reaching out to them soon (just waiting for the school year to end so that I can give more attention to this book). I will gladly share the cover once it's all taken care of.
But I'm at a bit of a crossroads! I'm unsure of which direction to go with my cover. Option One (which seems to be the more trendy approach, in my opinion): Focus on the title with a pattern or other graphic. Option Two: My lead character will be the focus with her white bow and a dragon in the background.
Definitely leaning toward Option One.
No book updates today, but I have a room update!
I'm trying to get my writing space finished so that I can sit down at my desk and start making edits. The goal is to have the room completed this weekend!
I've been OBSESSED with this painting from Target. I picked it up yesterday, and it's just as AMAZING in person.
Turning our guest room into my own writing space! The paint is finally finished. Tomorrow we will put my desk together and get it and the rug situated. I think I need to do some decor shopping ASAP!
